TaskRabbit, the online marketplace for freelance labor, has expanded to six new UK locations, with two additional locations set for early 2019.
The six new locations are Brighton, Cardiff, Coventry, Liverpool & Warrington, Oxford and Reading. The service launched in London in 2013 after being available exclusively in the US since 2008, and previously expanded to UK cities Birmingham, Bristol and Manchester in February 2018, bringing the total to ten UK regions.
What's more, the service will officially launch in Scotland in "early 2019," says the company, with Edinburgh and Glasgow slated as the first two locations.
TaskRabbit enables users to list a service they need doing on the app, which could be anything -- gardening, DIY work or moving heavy items, for example. TaskRabbit's algorithms will then match the service required to available Taskers -- a freelance laborer who uses the app to get work -- from which the user chooses a Tasker. The Tasker then arrives, does the work, and gets paid through the app. The TaskRabbit platform has been so successful for some Taskers that they have made it their primary job, travelling from one job to the next as and when required.

TaskRabbit was acquired by IKEA in 2017, with the furniture retail giant launching a flatpack furniture assembly service in March 2018. The company is independent from the IKEA group and has offices in San Francisco, New York, Austin, and -- crucially as it grows its UK presence -- London. It now has a presence in around half of the places where IKEA has stores in the UK, but other than the aforementioned flatpack assembly service, there has been no integration between the two companies.
